Estate & Asset Management Sector

All regular maintenance work of own assets like Unnayan Bhavan, materials godown etc., crematorium, Township development project (like Baruipur), EKDP Projects, maintenance, auditorium, riverfront beautifiation projects, markets, auction of assets, field survey as required, advertisement, kiosk-procurement, gardening, beautification projects, parks etc. issues may be taken care of by this sector. This sector was originally established in the year 1977-78 in the name of NT & AD Sector and afterwards it was renamed as SURAD Sector and again it was renamed as Area Development Sector.

Basic Activity of Area

Initially this sector was established for creation of some Satelite Townships like Baishnabghata-Patuli, East Kolkata, Hatirsur and West Howrah. Thereafter the work of Cattle resettlement Project at different places in the metropolitan area was entrusted to this sector. Later on construction of residential housing projects at different locations in the BP Township and East Kolkata as well as in Salt Lake area had also been entrusted  to this sector.

Apart from this, this sector did some special projects such as market, school, part, etc. in addition to some deposit works like development of refugee colonies at different locations of KMDA. Other deposit works like development of Kali Temple Complex at Dakshineswar, few Health Centre, repair, renovation and extension of Hotal Menagement Complex at Taratala were also done by this sector. Low  cost housing for the weaker sector of the people under VAMBAY Project at Chetla and Nonadanga were also undertaken by this sector.

Board Infrastructure

This sector is headed by one Chief Engineer(Civil) and supported by one Addl. Chief Engineer, one ACFA and one Administrative Officer under different wings. They are further supported by senior officers like S.E ( 4 nos.), EE(10 nos.), AE(16 nos.), TA(32 nos.) and Work Assistant ( 10 nos.) for the technical wing only.

ACFA is supported by three Accounts Officers, one Accountant, one Section Officer (A/cs), two Sr. Accounts Assistant and four Accounts Assistants. The Administrative Wing is supported by one Section Officer, two Head Assistants, four Sr. Assistants and four TCC.


Though most of the Circle, Division Offices are situated within Unnayan Bhaban Complex, the following offices are located outside the Unnayan Bhaban.

  2. On-going 995 units ( BP 531 units & ECAD 464 units).

B. Low cost Housing under VAMBAY Project -

  1. Already completed and handed over 544 units.
  2. On-going 352 units.
  3. Core House at BP Project for economically weaker section - 3805 unit

The competent authority of KMDA has recently entrusted this sector to take up the necessary development works required for shifting of District Headquarters, South 24 Parganas from Alipore to Baruipur against which a major quantum of land has been earmarked.
